The reason why I do boudoir photography is a personal reason that stems from my own life. I hope that in sharing this story, it helps us, as women, to connect better and feel more fearless.
Why Boudoir Photography
I took the time to really sit with my own thoughts and ask myself, why boudoir photography. I’ve done lots of other type of portraiture in my career, so why boudoir? There are a lot of reasons that come to my mind actually. The biggest ones are – treating yourself, celebrating yourself, getting glammed up, having a kick-ass fun time, and seeing portraits of yourself where your jaw drops. All of these things put together, create a life changing experience for our mind, our body, and our self confidence. I want you to feel absolutely worth it.
I started shooting boudoir photography in 2019. It was amazing to see my client’s reaction to her photos and the self confidence boost she got.
Women often say they don’t have a boudoir body or they want to lose some weight first. Even if you ask skinny women, they will also have reasons why they’re not ‘ready.’ It’s crazy, because no matter what you look like, women always find something to criticize themselves about.
I read somewhere once – “You’ve been criticizing your body for years and it hasn’t worked… Try approving yourself and see what happens.”
Man, that feels powerful. I love that.
I love showing women you CAN in fact feel beautiful, sexy, and confident just the way you are now.
The Transformation During A Boudoir Experience
I want to talk about the transformation that occurs during a boudoir experience because so many of these elements bring me deep joy and passion as a boudoir photographer.
The transformation that takes place during the bouoir photoshoot is always visible and amazing. As a photographer, this brings me a lot of joy and purpose to see you become more relaxed and at ease from the beginning to the end.
It’s normal that when you arrive you’ll be nervous. You might have all the worst possible scenarios running through your mind. You might be thinking, what if all the things I’m self conscious about show through in my photos? Don’t worry. I’m here to guide you and help relax you. Getting into the hair and makeup chair is the first place it starts. This helps people get relaxed and a boost of confidence seeing yourself dolled up.
Then the photoshoot would start. The first series is light and easy, to get you warmed up. We’ll start in a PJ set or something similar. When I show the client the back of the camera, it’s always a WOW moment. I usually hear, “OH my god, that’s me? No way! That’s me!”
Then as the photoshoot continues, you’ll be feeling more confident, giving smirks and sexy eyes and just having fun.
By the time the session is over you’ll be feeling oh, wow it’s over already?! It’s cliche, but time does go by quicker when you’re having fun.
The same day Photo Premiere is a really special part of the boudoir experience with Chiha Boudoir. These will be some of your all time favorite portraits of you! You’ll be amazed at your photos and that yes, that really is you.
If you have a partner, you finally get to see how your partner sees you. They don’t see the negative critiques. They see all the ways you are amazing and sexy. And if you’re single, you’ll be thinking that anyone would be LUCKY to have this bad bitch. Either way, when you walk out that door, you’ll be smiling so big and excited to tell your friends about what you just did.
A Little Piece Of My Story
Body image is tough. At any age, and any body shape. Even though I know I’m a typical slim person, I criticized my body when I was younger. I have many memories of feeling like my body was never quite what I wanted it to look like. I would always criticize my stomach. Or I felt that my body had no curves. My hips were usually the same width as my waist, with no natural curve. Or that my hair wasn’t like others and I wanted it to be straight! My gosh, we always find ways to compare ourselves to others.
Fast forward to today – there are many photos of myself from the past that I look back on and think ‘oh wow, I looked way better than I felt I did.’
It had me thinking, my gosh, I’m never appreciating my body in the present. On the one hand, I felt guilty for criticizing my body because I have a traditionally skinny body. In my head, I’m thinking people will say, ‘what does she have to complain about??’ And on the other hand, I realized it’s crazy how we, as women, ALWAYS find something to criticize about ourselves. That’s what the sad part is.
Yes, that’s me! During a bikini photoshoot in 2024.
I thought to myself, how many other women aren’t appreciating their bodies as they are right now?
I especially love working with women of ALL body types and walks of life, to bring out the sexy in you, as you are today.
